The theme of ISSUE 008 is “with time.“

Time is a strange thing. You can't feel it. You can't touch it. It stretches moments into immeasurable years. And yet, at the snap of its fingers, decades disappear into seconds.

What is time? How does it move? How long has it really been? Do you have enough? Do you have too much? Focused on capturing moments and visualizing time, where has your time taken you?

This is a magazine about our perception & experience of time. Thank you for spending yours with us.

WHAT IS TITLE MAG?

TITLE is a collective of diverse creatives who thrive when coming together to build unconventional narratives and make things that push culture in a new direction.

Each issue is guided by a central theme encouraging our team to experiment with their ideas through myriad mediums. With a focus on collaboration, TITLE staff inspires each other as photographers, stylists, writers, designers, and everything in between. Fostering this creative cross-pollination keeps things fresh and allows TITLE to explore new concepts.

PROJECT CONCEPT

A reconciliation with one’s ever changing self and loss of innocence. The cathartic release of the pains of the past, and the triumph of a person owning the wounds that life left them with.

VISION

It can be hard to look at one’s childhood self without feeling a deep sense of mourning, and sadness for the future of their life and the hardships that they are bound to face. What would we be like if that childhood wonder and bliss never left? If we never were shrouded with the cruelties of the world? This piece is a ode to the bliss of childhood innocence, and acceptance of the reality of the passage of time. The power held in forgiving the world for tearing off the rose colored glasses.

STORYTELLING

In order to understand the stories told by the model’s childhood photos, my team and I conducted in depth interviews to get to the root of their personal growth story.

Interviews & Image Selection

Thematic Exploration

After understanding the models’ stories, my team and I found key themes within their stories that we wished to explore. My photographer and I explored various methods of composing and capturing the imagery, and paired them with themes that we felt they visualized best.

Shoot BTS

I want to extend a huge thank you to our friends at Camp Stew in Camp Washington, who gave us access to their expansive space, which was truly the perfect spot to shoot Tian’s photos. Our stylist, Kat Newcombe, provided the perfect materials and outfit suggestions for the shoots. The photo mastermind, Emma Sulfsted, undoubtedly worked her magic on these shots.

Storyboard

After shooting with our models and composing the new photos with the old, we organized the spreads by themes we wanted to convey and the emotional experience of the viewer.

Final Solution

Printed within TITLE magazine issue 008 and included in the digital extended edition, both are currently on sale here.
